Are you committed to deep eco-truth telling and sufficient transformative solutions? Then write with us.

Ecological Internet is looking for guest bloggers for our leading environmental portals sites including ClimateArk, Forests.org and EcoEarth.Info; and essayists for our soon to be launched "New Earth Rising" e-zine. Don't bother to reply if like WWF and RAN you think logging ancient forests somehow saves them, if like TreeHugger your focus is upon making over-consumption cool, or if like Grist you think being cuttingly sardonic matters. Help us spread the written word -- the Earth is gravely ill and only profound, revolutionary personal and social action can save us now. Contact us to write for Ecological Internet and share your truth regarding the depth of the global ecological crisis and what must be done to save being.

Climate Ark: The present carbon cycle

10. The global carbon cycle shows the carbon reservoirs in GtC (gigatonne= one thousand million tonnes) and fluxes in GtC/year. The indicated figures are annual averages over the period 1980 to 1989. The component cycles are simplified and the figures present average values. The riverine flux, particularly the anthropogenic portion, is currently very poorly quantified and is not shown here. Evidence is accumulating that many of the fluxes can fluctuate significantly from year to year. In contrast to the static view conveyed in figures like this one, the carbon system is dynamic and coupled to the climate system on seasonal, interannual and decadal timescales.
